this week

Finished — American Wife.

In active progress — Tess of the d’Urbervilles (on audio), Robert Cormier’s I Am the Cheese

About to start — Kate Morton’s The Forgotten Garden

And since I’ll be spending the weekend traveling, I will probably also be devoting some time to the books on my iPhone.  Although I haven’t been totally sold on the idea of digital devices as my primary source of reading material, I was thrilled to discover an iPhone app called “Classics” — this little icon on my screen links me to a dozen or so classic texts, any of which I can bring up onto my screen at the touch of the button.  It’s the perfect timekiller for short waits.  I’m currently rereading  Pride and Prejudice, but I also have Hound of the Baskervilles, Robinson Cruesoe, and Huckleberry Finn (among others) at my fingertips.  There are a lot of cool things the iPhone can do, but this is easily one of my favorites.
