this week

Finished — The Graveyard Book

Actively reading — Freaky Green Eyes, which I’m about halfway through on audio; Jellicoe Road, a YA novel I’ve just started by Melina Marchetta; American Rust by Philipp Meyer, which I’m also about halfway through. I’m enjoying both Marchetta’s and Meyer’s books, and moving between them depending on my mood.

Less actively reading — Tess of the d’Urbervilles (meaning I haven’t picked it up in the last few days, but am still carrying with me on a daily basis)

About to start reading — Haven’t completely decided, since I’m not close to finishing any of the books I’m working on, but I think my next audio will be one of my Classics Challenge books, A Tale of Two Cities. Laurie Halse Anderson has a new novel, Wintergirls, coming out next week, and in honor of that, I’m considering doing a LHA reading marathon this weekend to finish her two I haven’t read and then start the new one next week.

What are you working on or planning on starting soon?

  1. I am reading “Wishful Drinking” by Carrie Fisher. She played Princess Leia in Star Wars, as I am sure you know, and was married to Paul Simon at one point. She chronicles her life as a child of celebrities (Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher) and a celebritiy in her own right, her struggles with alcohol, drugs, bad relationships and mental illness – and makes it quite hilarious. It’s a quick read – I recommend it.
