this week

I came home this afternoon to find a book in my mailbox — always a good thing.  It’s a new young adult novel called Lovestruck Summer by Melissa Walker, whom you can visit here or here.  I’m a few pages in, and it looks like it’s going to be a fun, summery read.

Other books in active progress: April Smith’s North of Montana (in hard copy form) and Carl Hiassen’s Flush (on my iPod).  I’m still in the early stages of both.  I’m doubting either will end up on my favorites list, but they both seem to be solid representations of their genres (crime and YA, respectively).

Recently finished: A Tale of Two Cities — my initial ambivalence completely vanished by the end.  More on that soon.

About to start: Stephen King’s On Writing.  Though not a reader of King’s work (I’m such a wimp when it comes to scary stuff), I’ve heard amazing things about his memoir and am looking forward to it.

What are you working on?

  1. I have On Writing in my pile, too, though I’d devoured much of his then-oeuvre before I hit 16. As for Dickens, based on what you’ve written I’m tempted to give him a shot again, after having felt similarly about his opening chapters.
