congratulations katy

This weekend, my sister Katy graduated from college.  She is now headed off into the world to teach high school English, and my gift to her, as a once-and-maybe-future English teacher and a YA lit lover, was a stack of young adult novels to kick off her classroom library.  (Now all she needs, she says, is a classroom.)

Here were my picks:

Jacob Have I Loved

I’ve read most of these — all but America and In the Middle of the Night. (I was actually tempted to read America before giving it to her, but I just didn’t have time, so I’ll have to borrow that one some time, Kate.) Some are old favorites, others newer discoveries.

But this is just a tiny sampling of the great YA literature out there. So help me give a new teacher some more ideas for a well-rounded YA library — what are your recommendations?
