under the tree

One of my favorite parts of Christmas is picking out gifts, and some of my favorite gifts to give are books.  Here are a few my husband and I wrapped up this year to go under various trees…

For a couple of the younger readers in our lives:

Everyone knows Richard Scarry’s characters.  But if you haven’t met Skippyjon Jones yet, you should.  His stories are nonsensical adventures full of wordplay and whimsy that just about any kid would love.

We went with non-fiction for two aunts, a cousin, and a future brother-in-law:

If you haven’t seen the “Weird” books before, they’re neat books that highlight unusual features of the respective state.  They make great gifts for people who enjoy a good road trip.

And of course, there were some YA picks as well:

When You Reach Me was one I really enjoyed last year, so it was an easy pick for my little cousin.  The others, favorites of my 2010 reading, went to my sisters, both of whom are YA fans as well.

What books were you giving — or getting — this Christmas?
